Ms. Karin Krisetya

When a student walks into my classroom, I want them to know that they matter. That they matter to me.  I want them to feel the way I did in first grade when I wanted to go to school even though I was sick because I knew my teacher would miss me.  Over my 10 years of teaching, I have grown as a person and as a teacher because I continue to learn from and with my students.  I can’t wait to see what I can learn from them this year as I teach 6th Grade Reading and 6th Grade Foundations!

My husband, two adult children and I returned to the US after living for twenty years in SE Asia, where I had been teaching in international schools. My own elementary and middle-school years were spent attending international schools in southern Africa; I have always been excited to learn about cultures other than my own! Reading is one way that I can continue to learn about other cultures even when I’m not traveling to those places.  And I am excited to share my love of reading with my sixth-grade readers!

Beyond reading, I like to sing in choirs, cook and eat international food with my family, and bake gluten-free goodies. I know that each of my students has a life outside of school too, and that life includes caregivers at home.  I look forward to partnering with caregivers to create a safe and exciting space in which our students can learn. Caregivers are the expert on their child, and I want to learn from them how to best serve their child.

Please do not hesitate to contact me via email (karin.krisetya@spps.org)  if you have any questions or suggestions throughout the year. You are also welcome to call the main office number and I can call you back.

This year, sixth graders will attend to work in Readers’ Workshop every day, though not all days will I be teaching live.  Each day, students in my Foundations class will spend time with me online. Beyond this, I will have office hours daily during which students can get individual help on their assignments.  For more information on this, please email me.
