Role at Global Arts Plus Upper: 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher

Years at Global Arts Plus Upper: 5

Hello, I'm Ms. Hunt, the 7th-grade social studies teacher. I am excited to explore US History with our Global Arts Plus students this year. I also teach a 7th/8th grade elective focused on developing student leaders.

I studied History and Education at Bethel University after being inspired by my 11th grade History teacher when I was in high school in Rochester, MN. My hope is that I can help students connect the past with the present and equip them with critical thinking skills to engage their world now and in the future.

In American Studies, we begin 7th grade with a look at our founding documents, then make our way through the 19th and 20th centuries, tracking how well we have lived up to the promises and dreams of our country's ideals. During 2nd and 3rd quarters, students participate in History Day, a personalized, comprehensive research project that allows them to dig deep into topics of their choosing and then present their findings to the school community. We end the year with an exploration of the 20th century, getting as close to the present day as possible.

Student Government is the student leadership class at Global Arts Plus. Students will identify their strengths and goals as leaders and have a variety of opportunities to grow in their leadership abilities throughout the semester. We will also learn about basic democratic governance and principles of civic engagement.

When I am not teaching, I am often enjoying my St. Paul neighborhood, my garden, a good book, a new adventure, and time with my family. This past summer, I spent 7 weeks walking across Spain! It was an amazing experience. I have three adult children who all live in Chicago. (One of them is getting married in May!) I also have a dog, a 3-year-old silver lab named Milo.

I am looking forward to a great year! The following is my class schedule and Schoology is updated weekly with grades and assignments. Contact information is at the end of the message.
